PM: Cambodians Abroad Should Stay with the Country in Crisis

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Sen has said that people who live abroad in countries facing crisis should not flee the country when they are suffering, and should instead mourn together with the local people.

The Prime Minister made this remark while speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodia-China Friendship Preah Kosamak Hospital on Monday, 21 March. He said that his decision was not to let Cambodians leave countries that are struggling, in order to show solidarity and sympathy to the people of those countries.

He continued that there are currently 23 Cambodian families situated in Ukraine, and he has no policy to evacuate them.

"When their country is safe, we are with them, but when they face trouble, we run away from them, this is impossible,” he remarked.

He also said that before the Covid-19 outbreak, many students left China to escape the outbreak, and now it is difficult for them to return to school. The Prime Minister used this example to say that people should not run away from each other in times of difficulty.
